My Life in Table Tennis:
Peter Cameron
Peter is over 80 years old and has been playing table tennis for more than 60 years. He’s a long standing member of Drumchapel Table Tennis Club and continues to play competitively every week in the Glasgow leagues.
His story is a powerful reminder of the impact that local clubs like Drumchapel have in people’s lives, across all ages. From beginners to seasoned players like Peter, the club offers a space to play, connect, and grow.
Peter's story has helped us share more on the power of sport and celebrating creativity and community with our TOPSP!N exhibition.
“I don’t know what I’d do without table tennis,” Peter says. “I’m not a sitter. I like to keep busy, and this club gives me a reason to get out and keep moving.”
Peter first picked up a bat in the 1960s and never stopped. He’s been through injuries and setbacks, but table tennis has always pulled him through.
“You get knocked down, but you get back up again. That’s life,” he says.
His story is one of quiet commitment — the kind that reflects what Drumchapel Table Tennis Club offers to so many: consistency, community, and a sense of purpose. The club isn’t just about competition; it’s about belonging.
